Premiere: 'Blue Note Re:imagined II' documentary charts the journey of UK jazz's biggest stars
Following the release of the ‘Blue Note Re:Imagined II’ compilation album last week, a new documentary has been released exploring UK jazz’s biggest stars and their journey through the music industry so far.
The 10-minute video features interviews with Oscar Jerome, Franc Moody, Ego Ella May, Cherise, Theon Cross and many more, asking the people representing today’s jazz scene what it is that makes them tick.
Beginning with asking the artists what they first imagined becoming a musician would be like, the short film then goes on to uncover themes such as identity in music, remaining genuine in the industry, and what motivates them.
Describing the new documentary, Blue Note states: “This video is an ode to dreams realised, those that came true and were lost to reality. Always in pursuit of the next step, we hardly ever take time to appreciate how far we’ve come and who we’ve become. We simply invite you to stop and think, cherish and feel.”
The recently released ‘Blue Note Re:Imagined II’ album features fresh takes on the illustrious Blue Note vaults recorded by the UK jazz, soul and R&B scene’s most hotly-tipped rising stars.
“For more than eight decades the artists of Blue Note Records have continually pushed the envelope of contemporary music,” says Blue Note President Don Was. “Blue Note Re:imagined II once again honours that legacy by letting the UK’s most creative young artists reinvent the treasures of the Blue Note catalog through their own lens.”
