Kronos Quartet to take up week long residency at the Barbican

World celebrated string quartet to play concerts, lead workshops and collaborate with London choirs in January.

Established in 1973, the world famous Kronos Quartet have written hundreds of contemporary classical works and collaborated with composers including John Adams, Steve Reich, Philip Glass and Arvo Pärt. So it’s quite the coup that the Barbican are set to host their formidable talent for a week long residency entitled Awakenings from 21-27th January 2012.

According to the press release, the quartet will: “perform three concerts in three different venues, give the world premiere of a major new work by Valentin Silvestrov, collaborate with two London choirs (Trinity Laban Chamber Choir and the New London Children’s Choir), and engage with young musicians and the public in a series of creative learning events. Integral to Kronos’ work is a series of long-running, in-depth collaborations with many of the world’s foremost composers. These collaborations will take centre stage throughout the concerts and events.”
