Before DJ HEARTSTRING became clubland’s cupids, Leo and Jonas were shaped by the indie and alternative sounds of the 00s and 2010s. That love for guitar music, nostalgia and unabashed emotion still runs through their euphoric, high-BPM productions today - from the FIFA soundtrack influence behind recent single 'Another Year Alone' to their interpolation of Catfish and the Bottlemen’s '7'.

Fresh from their latest collaboration with Sam Gellaitry, 'So Many Things', the Berlin duo have turned to the records that helped soundtrack their own musical journeys DMY 10 Best.

"These are 10 indie tracks that have shaped our musical taste," DJ HEARTSTRING tell DMY. "There are some of our fav classics, both internationally and German in here."

1. Foals - Hummer

Jonas: "Banger alert!! Will never forget the secret episode of Skins' first gen where the crew is getting fucked at a forest party to this. Iconic."

2. Tomte - Die Schönheit der Chance

Jonas: "Tomte are one of the iconic bands of the so called 'Hamburger Schule' from the northern German port city. The beauty of chance as the title translates feels poetic yet simple. Check out Kettcar as well. Two childhood favourites."

3. Black Box Revelation - Stand Your Ground

Jonas: "Not a lot of people know Black Box Revelation, a two man band from Belgium. Definitely one of my favourite bands in high school, with 'Stand Your Ground' as probably my favourite."

4. Franz Ferdinand - Jacqueline

Jonas: "Franz Ferdinand were my second concert ever. Absolute treat live. Their debut album has many highlights. 'Jacqueline' is probably the standout song for me.

5. Foster The People - Waste

Jonas: "Torches is such an iconic album. 'Pumped Up Kicks was everywhere in 2011. 'Waste' is probably my favourite song of theirs too. I listened to it everyday that summer. Timeless."

6. Bloc Party - Banquet

Leo: "One of the first tunes that introduced me to alternative indie/rock music. Reminds me of a time you used to come back from school and watch MTV just to hear that one tune you had stuck in your head for a week."

7. Radiohead - Everything In Its Right Place

Leo: "Very deep and melancholic, absolutely beautiful song. Almost feels like a film score. I remember listening to this crappy deep house remix on Soundcloud back in the day, later realising how iconic the original was and how it never needed a remix in the first place."

8. Two Door Cinema Club - I Can Talk

Leo: "High-energy and euphoric, love the vocal chops at the start, definitely found this song through playing FIFA as a teenager."

9. Sportfreunde Stiller - Ein Kompliment

Leo: "This is a German staple, feels like we took this song on a full-circle journey: from hearing it on the car radio as a kid, to growing out of it and finding it cheesy as a young adult, to now circling back to realising what a banger this truly always has been."

10. The Streets - It's Too Late

Leo: "This song holds a special place in our hearts. The simplicity and imperfection of the instrumental paired with Mike Skinner's spoken word feels like a letter to your younger self. Absolutely love this tune."
