10 Acts to Catch at Wide Awake Festival
South London's counter-cultural festival, Wide Awake, returns to Brockwell Park next Saturday 25 May.
The one day event has been heralded as one of the most forward-thinking and well-curated festivals to emerge in recent years, billing musical heavyweights alongside up-and-coming innovators.
As well as hosting artists from across indie, rock, punk, rap, electronic, alt-pop and more, there are also a ton of workshops and talks to dive into for when you need a rest from the dance.
Ahead of the big day, we've selected 10 of our favourite acts from the Wide Awake line-up. If nothing else, make sure you catch these sets...
Young Fathers
The Scottish progressive hip-hop group has a delightfully unpinnable sound that refutes definition. The BRIT Award nominated and Mercury Prize shortlisted trio are one of the most hyped acts around right now, and for good reason - they put on one hell of a show. We'll meet you front left.
Slowdive
If you missed out on 90s shoegaze band Slowdive's UK tour, make amends by catching them at Wide Awake. Expect to hear tracks from the band's 2023 album 'everything is alive', as well as their greatest hits, especially fan favourites 'When The Sun Hits' and 'Alison', in the sunset slot.
Fat Dog
South London band Fat Dog are proponents of the surreal and silly. Their on-stage energy is boisterous and mosh pits are a given. Sonically, the five-piece lands anywhere between rock, punk, dance and klezmer. Come for the chaos.
Eartheater
Experimental, New York-hailing Eartheater will no doubt perform renditions of last year's album, 'Powder', alongside a selection from her eclectic eight album-plus discography.
Helena Hauff
German DJ and producer Helena Hauff rose from the underground scene in Hamburg to become a well-known face on the festival circuit each summer. Lose yourself in the music as Hauff spins a mix of raw, industrial techno, acid and electro. Good luck with Shazaming this set.
Sevdaliza
Iranian-Dutch singer-songwriter/producer Sevdaliza will bring otherworldly vocals and haunting melodies to Wide Awake for her first UK show since her sold-out headline gig at London's HERE @ Outernet last autumn.
Hannah Diamond
Electronic-pop musician and visual artist Hannah Diamond is part of the PC Music collective, so you can bet on some high-concept hyperpop in her performance.
Lambrini Girls
Best described as a political two-piece thanks to their observant critique of societal issues through music, Lambrini Girls will be serving up raw punk energy.
OK Williams
Get ready to two step... London club DJ OK Williams' set is the place to be for anything from the freshest UK rap, to deep house and techno cuts, to jungle and UK funky.
Ben UFO
Ben UFO has become renowned as one of contemporary dance music’s most daring and wide-ranging selectors. With roots in UK rave culture, his set is sure to be full of surprises.
