Where Glasgow has a long history of being connected to dance music, it’s traditionally been less intertwined with rap and hip-hop. DJ and producer Kacie McAdam (K4CIE) founded clubnight Peach in a bid to bring more rap-centric sounds to its crowds and encourage a greater female presence in the process. Gracing the airwaves via Foundation FM, 1Xtra, NTS, Rinse and more, Kacie has long been comfortable selecting the finest rap and hip-hop going, both from the UK and further afield.
She’s part of a creative community in the Scottish city that counts the likes of CHLOBOCOP (who she DJs for) and Shogun in its midst, and has co-founded 664 Studios in a bid to take those creative pursuits further. Her Dummy Mix is her first mix of 2021, and it’s extra special as it’s the first time she’s been able to record a mix in that space. “We opened our doors at the beginning of last year in Glasgow, just as Covid hit,” she explains. “It’s been a struggle but also allowed me to focus on my own productions and sessions with some amazing artists, which I can’t wait to drop this year!”
Packing a mammoth 37 tracks into an hour, K4CIE’s Dummy Mix is a high-energy blend of the party-starting tracks we’ve been craving to hear on a big system, as well as some of her own cuts. “This mix was created around the idea of having live shows again,” she says, “playing in a room full of energy and love. I have a lot of new music in the mix (including a couple of exclusives of my own productions) as well as our loved party tracks that hopefully bring back some memories of the good ol’ days. We can only hope the end is near so we can hug and party in the same room again soon, that being said I can’t wait for a Peach event, the energy is unmatched.
