Bklava is a Brighton-based, Irish-Lebanese DJ and producer on the rise. Hailing from the new school of UKG in the same vein of the likes of Conducta, she’s recently secured remixes for Diplo as well as a collaboration with ascending producer ABSOLUTE. The music she makes is as sweet as her flaky pastry namesake – most recently the Rinse FM resident shared emotive UKG heater ‘Close To You‘, with her own vocals that was written in the depths of the first lockdown, an incredible feat given how optimistic the track sounds. Arriving this summer via Ministry of Sound, Bklava’s forthcoming EP ‘Autonomy’ is set to build on these soulful soundscapes.
Volleying between textural electronics like Overmono’s ‘Pieces of 8’, percussive slammers and a handful of the new school of UK garage including the DJ EZ-tipped CB, Bklava’s Dummy Mix touches on some of the best in UK underground music right now. “I’m playing fresh new goodness in the mix from some of my favourite producers this year,” Bklava says. “We may not be hearing these tunes in clubs right now but despite that, this last year has been so special for music and I honestly can’t wait to be able to play these out in the dance.”
