BADBADNOTGOOD release country-inspired single 'Take What's Given'

The track features rising vocalist reggie

Canadian trio BADBADNOTGOOD have teamed up with Houston vocalist reggie for their latest offering, 'Take What's Given', a track that sails the group's sound into unchartered waters.

First known for their jazz covers of hip-hop tracks by MF Doom and and Odd Future, BADBADNOTGOOD have since gone on to become prolific collaborators in their own right, traversing a range of genres such as '70s soul-jazz, experimental electronica and alternative hip-hop in their music.

Hot on the heels of their fifth GRAMMY nomination, this time for Best Remixed RecordingBADBADNOTGOOD have linked up with reggie for a track that's been almost two years in the making.

reggie's crooning vocals open the warm, country-leaning song, on which reggie shares some life lessons ["Don't give what you're given/ Unless it's blessed"] against a easy-going melody, which builds to a jubilant climax towards the end.

'Take What You're Given' first came together when BADBADNOTGOOD invited the burgeoning artist to the studio in spring 2022. The connection was instant, and the track's groove came together somewhat seamlessly when the band were messing around during setup.

"We were just having fun with it until reggie started freestyling what became the lyrics. It quickly became an infectious song and we ended up laying it down within a couple takes. Stylistically it’s super different than anything we’ve put out before but we had such a fun time playing it and it was stuck in our heads for a year while we worked on other stuff," BADBADNOTGOOD commented.

BADBADNOTGOOD have already pencilled some live dates in for 2024, including appearances at Cross The Tracks in London, Primavera in Barcelona and (London), Bonnaroo in Tennessee, and a headline performance at Istanbul’s Zorlu Performing Arts Center.
