Coupdekat Announces Debut Album 'Goodbye 2012!' and Shares New Single 'kisses'
Coupdekat has announced her long-awaited debut album, 'Goodbye 2012!' due for release on 7 August, alongside the shimmering new single 'kisses'.
A vibrant celebration of the internet's early days, 'Goodbye 2012!' draws inspiration from the era of MySpace profiles, digital cameras and trips to Claire's Accessories, using Y2K nostalgia as a backdrop for a deeper exploration of identity, self-expression and growing up in an increasingly online world. Rather than simply revisiting the aesthetics of the period, the album reflects on a time before algorithms, constant connectivity and the pressures of social media shaped everyday life.
Leading the announcement is 'kisses', a sparkling slice of experimental pop produced by Cowboy Lansky. Inspired by Before Sunrise and its sequels, the track captures the bittersweet excitement of fleeting romance, pairing delicate melodies with inventive production that incorporates the sounds of a digital camera to evoke the intimacy of preserving memories before saying goodbye.
The announcement follows recent single 'i still think about the band' which hinted at the album's nostalgic themes through effervescent pop hooks and imagery drawn from the artist's own Facebook archives.
Since emerging in 2021, Coupdekat has become one of the UK's most exciting alternative pop voices, helping to co-found the Loud LDN collective while building a reputation for maximalist, genre-blurring pop. 'Goodbye 2012!' looks set to fuse hyper-pop energy with heartfelt reflections on youth, memory and the disappearing innocence of the early internet.
'kisses' is out now.
