Diedrick raises the tempo with R&B-infused sophomore single 'Great Escape'
Up-and-coming R&B vocalist Diedrick is teasing the release of his debut EP with a brand new single ‘Great Escape’.
The London-born, Derby-raised talent dropped his first ever single ‘Better’ back in May, premiering the track and accompanying Claryn Chong-directed music video at a launch event in South East London with his friends and family.
Repping a more upbeat, energetic sound than his mellow debut single, Diedrick’s sophomore release reflects on the trials and tribulations of being used by someone to escape their own toxic reality, living in secret and hiding your own true feelings.
Like on ‘Better’, ‘Great Escape’ was co-written and produced by Stormzy and Joy Crookes collaborator J Warner, marking another exciting link-up between the pair which continues to hone Diedrick’s moody but warm brand of soul-inflected R&B.
Soul music has always been a non-negotiable addition to Diedrick’s pool of influences having grown up on Celine Dion and Mariah Carey to Mario and Usher. Now running with the sound himself, the vocalist is bringing a distinctively UK flavour to the genre, singing about the highs and lows experienced by the youth of today.
