Grace Carter Steps Into Her Saturn Return With Debut Album ‘When Saturn Returns’
Grace Carter has finally released her debut album, ‘When Saturn Returns’, alongside new single ‘Girls Girl’ and a video directed by soulframe.
The title borrows from astrology’s Saturn return, the shift in your late twenties that’s said to bring a reckoning. For Carter, the reckoning began with a decision to stop waiting. She booked a flight to Stockholm, and that’s where most of the record took shape. Where her early work was rooted in childhood pain, this is the sound of someone who has lived through it and come out with a clearer sense of herself. It’s an album about moving from survival to understanding, and about accepting that not everything has to make sense straight away.
‘Girls Girl’ is the sharpest example of that perspective. It’s a witty, relatable song about a friendship ending, and about the people who drift out of your life as you change.
Elsewhere, the album covers a lot of emotional ground. ‘Crying In The Club’ captures the messy, non-linear way grief arrives after a relationship, when you think you’re fine until it hits you again. ‘This Body’ is a self-love anthem written through body anxiety and self-imposed pressure. Earlier singles ‘White’, ‘Bittersweet Escape’ and ‘Rather You Leave’ tackle the pressure to settle down, the pull of escapism and the importance of boundaries. The record closes on ‘I Am’, a pop ballad of affirmation that finds Carter fully grounded.
