Joy Crookes Joins Bonobo For New Single 'Always On Your Side'

Bonobo's new album 'Distance In Static' is set for release on 11 August.

Bonobo has shared another preview of his forthcoming album 'Distance In Static', teaming up with Joy Crookes for the new single ‘Always on Your Side’.

Released today, the collaboration pairs Bonobo's (AKA Simon Green) understated, textured production with Crookes' rich, emotive vocals, offering one of the album's most intimate moments so far. Following recent singles ‘Fire on the Water’ featuring Arooj Aftab and the club-focused ‘Drift’ and ‘Me and You’, the track further highlights the contrasting worlds that define 'Distance In Static'.

Arriving alongside a new behind-the-scenes video documenting the recording process, ‘Always on Your Side’ leans into the quieter, more reflective side of Bonobo's songwriting. It sits among a guestlist that also includes Nilüfer Yanya, Ichiko Aoba, Nicole Miglis of Hundred Waters and Aanya Martin, reinforcing the collaborative spirit at the heart of the record.

Due for release on 11 September via Ninja Tune, 'Distance In Static' was pieced together across recording sessions in Los Angeles, Tokyo, London and beyond, with a significant portion of the album completed at Neil Young's Broken Arrow Ranch in California. Throughout the record, Green weaves together lyrics in English, Urdu and Japanese alongside historic Iranian samples, guzheng recordings and his own meticulously crafted electronic production.

The latest single continues to showcase the album's dual identity, balancing Bonobo's reputation as both an introspective composer and one of electronic music's most accomplished DJs. While tracks like ‘Drift’ embrace the energy of the dancefloor, ‘Always on Your Side’ finds beauty in restraint, allowing Crookes' soulful performance to take centre stage.

Alongside the album rollout, Bonobo has also announced a brand new live production set to debut this November with a headline North American tour. Designed by Pierre Claude, whose previous work includes live shows for Air, Gesaffelstein, Phoenix and Caroline Polachek, the new production marks the next chapter in Bonobo's acclaimed audiovisual live performances, with further dates expected to be announced soon.
