Laura Mvula - Green Garden (S O H N remix)

When we first heard S O H N, we really liked him, so we wrote about him enthusiastically on more than one occasion. In fact we liked him so much, we made a film about him.

Now S O H N has gifted us this rework of Laura Mvula’s Green Garden, which gloriously contorts the original into something altogether his own. It’s the second Green Garden remix of note we’ve heard this week, after Dave from The Invisible, who first introduced us to Laura Mvula, shared his take on the track. In fact, it seems Laura is setting herself up as an early contender to succeed Jessie Ware as 2013’s “most remixed singer” (there’s already a whole flippin’ soundcloud devoted to them).

But none of that should detract from S O H N’s approach to Green Garden, which moves with a real openness, throwing in overpowering keyboards and roughing up Laura’s lush vocal. As Deptford Goth reminded us with his remix of Rhosyn’s Glass last week, there’s something particularly refreshing to be found in remixes from fellow vocalists. They can move with a greater air of risk and fluidity, resisting the temptation to slip into more tired and tested remix templates.

RCA will release Laura Mvula’s debut album ‘Sing To The Moon’ on the 4th March 2013.
