Sampha Shares Unheard Gem 'Cumulus / Memory' Co-Written With Romy
London singer, songwriter, and producer Sampha has released a long-awaited new track, 'Cumulus / Memory'.
Co-written with and featuring backing vocals from Romy, the ethereal track - which clocks in at almost six and a half minutes - marks the first new music from Sampha since his critically acclaimed 2023 album 'LAHAI,' arriving on the second anniversary of its release.
Originally recorded during the LAHAI sessions, 'Cumulus / Memory' remained unfinished until recently, a track Sampha continued refining in the quiet moments between touring his spellbinding live show. “Cumulus was the first song I wrote for Lahai and the last one to be finished,” he explains. “Living with it for some time, I really feel like I wanted to share it with people.”
The release captures Sampha at his most understated and elegant, weaving introspective lyricism with the warm intimacy of his production. It stands as both a companion piece to LAHAI and a window into the artist’s evolving creative world, one where time, memory, and connection fold into each other.
Following the Ivor Novello-nominated 'LAHAI,' and its 2024 deluxe edition featuring Little Simz, Yaeji, and Léa Sen, 'Cumulus / Memory' feels like the quiet after the storm - a meditative continuation of Sampha’s exploration into the beauty and complexity of human experience.
'Cumulus / Memory' is out now via Young.
