Today sees the official release of Chairman Kato’s new record, ‘Science & Romance’ EP on Awkward Movements, which you can stream below. This is the London producer’s second release since the Pictures-released ‘Wildfire’ EP that came out at the beginning of the year.

Chunky, fuzzed-up, slightly rough and offbeat, ‘Science & Romance’ is a dark house of hypnotic, fuzzed-up, and crafted synth beats which tempo gradually and steadily builds; its slow-motion 4×4 kicks, intertwined with those melodic synth lines, also wash over an immensely spooky atmosphere. The EP draws a huge amount of influence from different night-outs spent at the dark recesses of Plastic People nightclub, the musical education learned at the British Film Institution, as well as the classic synth scores of the John Carpenter era.

‘Science & Romance’ is a six-track EP, featuring four original tracks and two remixes – Bristol’s Ekoplekz offered up a beatless, eccentric version of Usual Drama while Detroit’s Andres reworked Low Rises and added his own soul, groovy elements into Kato’s original.
