Alysha Finds God In The Dark On 'Take It or Leave It'

The London artist trades gospel convention for goth synths and taboo symbolism on her boldest single yet.

Alysha has never been an artist content to sit inside a single box, and her new single 'Take It or Leave It' pushes that instinct further than ever, using the language of goth and new-wave to write, of all things, a song about faith.

Co-produced with Matt Rist, the track wraps its subject matter in shadowy synths and nocturnal electronic textures, deliberately steering away from the gospel, R&B or country frameworks faith songs usually arrive in. "I wanted to write a Goth/Electronic song about my faith which alternative people can also enjoy," Alysha explains. The track even leans into taboo imagery, referencing 666 as a way of provoking curiosity rather than shying from it. For all its atmosphere, though, Alysha keeps the premise disarmingly direct: "It's an Alternative genre song talking about God."

The track arrives alongside a music video, directed by Ché Deedigan, which features Alysha performing a contemporary freestyle dance routine, fittingly, in a church.

That instinct to blur boundaries has defined Alysha's music from the start. Raised in St John's Wood on a diet of Joss Stone, Beyoncé and Lauryn Hill alongside Siouxsie & The Banshees and church gospel, she began writing songs at 10 and released her debut single 'David Attenborough' at 16, before a 2023 rebrand pushed her sound into darker, more adventurous territory. Tracks like 'Lord, Help Me' and 'Finer Things' have steadily built her profile, alongside festival slots at Wild Paths and Forwards, where she's shared bills with Greentea Peng, Hak Baker and The Jesus & Mary Chain.

'Take It or Leave It' arrives ahead of Alysha's biggest live moment yet: three stadium dates in Japan this October, supporting LANY.
