Faye Meana: Inside the Making of 'I Meant To Say'
Faye Meana finds clarity writing in hindsight. The London singer-songwriter and producer rarely captures a feeling in the moment, but months or even years later, once she’s found the words she wishes she’d said at the time. That instinct gives her new EP, 'I Meant To Say', its name and its candid, diary-like heart: five songs about unspoken love, misplaced trust and boundaries left unset.
A classically trained pianist, Faye began producing at 14, teaching herself on GarageBand on her dad’s MacBook before moving to Logic, and she’s produced every track on the EP herself. The result is her signature blend of electronic soul, pop and disco, following 2025’s ’80s-leaning 'ninety8'.
With the EP out now and a launch show at Doña in London's Dalston on 5th November, Faye takes us inside the making of 'I Meant To Say', one photo from her camera roll at a time.
"I wrote 'Mine' in LA a few days after I got engaged. I was on cloud nine so of course, the only song that would have come out of that session would have been a love song."
"I wrote ‘Mine’ with Dana Williams. We wrote it so quickly, it really was sappy word vomit."
"I’m very close with my family so spending time all together is so important for me. I have my parents to thank for doing music."
"I recently went to Ronnie Scotts with my Mum & Dad. We spent the evening drinking 10/10 cocktails and listening to some of the best Jazz the city has to offer. Doesn’t get much better for a family girl like myself."
"We shot the majority of the content for 'I Meant To Say' in one trip."
"It was an intense 5 days but we had so much fun in the making and came out with some incredible stuff. I left feeling so inspired and started writing my next EP."
"One of my closest friends, Danny Ray, is an amazing artist and creative. He has a lot of influence on the things I do creatively."
"I often like to think back to my younger self when I’m writing. I started out playing piano, and I would put myself in this little bubble where, for those moments, the only thing that mattered was the room I was in. It’s harder to find that kind of stillness out of your childhood years."
"Travelling and being near the ocean gives me an openness I struggle to find elsewhere, and it’s where I feel most inspired."
"My wife inspires me more than anything else. Every love song I’ve ever written has ultimately been about her. All my songs are stories of experiences I’ve had, some beautiful and some not so much but the songs that mean the most to me are the ones that come from the love she’s given me. They feel different when I write them. They’re the songs I come back to, and the ones I treasure the most because they remind me of the most important thing that’s happened to me."
