Aili & Orson Capture The Chaos Of Modern Life On 'Achi Kochi'
Aili & Orson have returned with 'Achi Kochi', out now via Eskimo Recordings - the first taste of a second album due in early 2027, and a noticeable shift in direction for the Belgian-Japanese duo.
Where their acclaimed debut 'Nandakke?' thrived on neon-pop energy, 'Achi Kochi' pulls things inward. The title roughly translates to "all over the place," and the song wears that feeling accordingly: looping Japanese vocals and motorik rhythms channel the particular exhaustion of juggling family, friends, career and everything else all at once. Energetic disco drums, courtesy of guest Lander Gyselinck, collide with dreamy synth pads and a hypnotic Moog bassline, landing somewhere between urgent and melancholic; a track built as much for processing overwhelm as for dancing it off.
The choice to sing entirely in Japanese, rather than their usual bilingual approach, is a deliberate one. With strong momentum already built in Japan through their 'Dansu' EP and a partnership with Tokyo label TOKA, Aili & Orson are leaning further into Aili Maruyama's heritage as they look to expand their footprint across Asia.
It's the latest step for a duo whose rise has been anything but slow: 'Nandakke?' topped KCRW's Top 30 Album Chart in the US, earned heavy rotation on KEXP and BBC Radio 6 Music, and took them on the road supporting L'Impératrice through venues including L'Olympia Paris and the Roundhouse London.
Aili & Orson play Amsterdam Dance Event on 22nd October, ahead of a headline release show at Brussels' Ancienne Belgique next March.
