DJ HEARTSTRING Bring In Spoken Word and Jungle Elements On ‘3AM / 4AM’

The Berlin duo’s latest single, with MONK, Crazy Mike and 3NDLES5, arrives two weeks ahead of debut album ‘Sentimental Ultra’.

DJ HEARTSTRING have shared ‘3AM / 4AM’, the latest single from their debut album ‘Sentimental Ultra’, which lands on 13th November via Steel City Dance Discs.

It’s a collaboration with three members of the S.C.D.D. family: Berlin rapper MONK, producer Crazy Mike and Australian poet and performer 3NDLES5. Jungle motifs run through a 4x4 beat, with spoken word delivered in both German and English. The mood is the small hours at their loneliest, with 3NDLES5 summing it up in one line: “3am/4am alone in McDonald’s motion.”

The 15-track album is where Jonas and Leo try to be more rebellious, and it’s about the margins of a night out as much as the peak: the befores, the afters, the soft and the supercharged. Underneath that is the thrill of discovering something for the first time as a kid and knowing you’ll love it forever. They’ve lined up a mix of familiar and new collaborators, including Spriitzz, BAUGRUPPE90, Sam Gellaitry, Saidah, DMA’S, KennyHoopla and a secret act.

The run-up has been busy. ‘So Many Things’ with Sam Gellaitry and ‘Another Year Alone’, which interpolates Catfish and the Bottlemen, came first, followed by lead single ‘Sentimental Ultra’ and ‘What Music Felt Like In 2007’. Their guitar-music, mid-noughties and FIFA-soundtrack leanings are plain to hear.

Off the back of a big year, which has brought a sold-out London show at Magazine, a guest spot on KETTAMA’s debut album, and 15,500 tickets sold across three Australian dates, ‘Sentimental Ultra’ looks set to be their defining statement.

‘3AM / 4AM’ is out now via Steel City Dance Discs.
