girl_irl Drops New Track, 'Lag'
Dark, bubbling production couple with girl_irl's signature monotone, pacey vocals in this new single that is ready-made for the club.
Inspiration struck girl_irl last July when they found themselves jetlagged in the hotel of a city they'd never been to before, just after finding out the show they had travelled there for had been cancelled.
"That sinking feeling of immediately hearing bad news while in the midst of circumstantial grief in my personal life painted the backdrop of the track," they share. "When creating any personal music I really enjoy letting the production speak to how I’m feeling in my personal life and the lyrics speak for this ‘girl_irl’ persona. In this case, it was a blending of two worlds while addressing several different personal situations. I really wanted it to capture the feeling of how emotions initially hit. In my situation, a fuelled need to run with nowhere to go.”
The industrial pop tune follows on from girl_irl's previous single, 'buzz', a pulsating, crepuscular number that would sound right at home in a Charli XCX Boiler Room set.
The Atlanta-raised and Brooklyn-based producer, DJ and artist has been blending techno, pop and gritty industrial beats with their entrancing monotone delivery for three years now. Currently, they are gearing up to release a new mixtape, which will feature their 2024 singles, 'lag', 'buzz' and 'lock'.
