Jay-Z shares alternative version of 'Empire State of Mind' featuring Gil Scott-Heron
Jay-Z has mashed-up his 2009 hit ‘Empire State of Mind’ with Gil Scott-Heron’s ‘New York Is Killing Me’.
Titled ‘New York (Concept de Paris)’, the rapper debuted the mash-up at the opening of the Basquiat x Warhol. Painting Four Hands exhibition at Paris’ Louis Vuitton Foundation earlier this month. Jay-Z also gave a rare live performance to mark the occasion.
Engineered by Jay-Z's longtime collaborator Gimel “Young Guru” Keaton, the track features two of the world's most iconic musicians side by side.
Scott-Heron's ‘New York Is Killing Me’ originally appeared on 'I'm New Here' from 2010, the 15th and final studio album by the legendary jazz poet who died in 2011.
