John Glacier Jumps On Rework Of 'Floette' With Arlo Parks

John Glacier adds a cool, understated touch.

Arlo Parks has joined forces with London rapper, poet and producer John Glacier for a new reworking of ‘Floette’, taken from Parks’ latest album 'Ambiguous Desire'.

Glacier brings her understated, emotionally cool delivery to the track, slipping between Parks’ delicate vocals and the song’s glowing production. The result is a restrained take on one of the record's more uplifting moments, retaining its sense of warmth while giving the track a sharper, more spacious feel.

Released in April, 'Ambiguous Desire' marked a more experimental turn for Parks, drawing heavily on the electronic music and club spaces she immersed herself in while making the record. Inspired by everything from Paradise Garage and Theo Parrish to The Streets, Burial and LCD Soundsystem, the album trades some of her earlier live-band approach for modular synths, samples and electronic production.

Reflecting on the making of the record, Parks shares, "I danced more than ever as I made this record, I made more friends than ever too, found myself in the weird underbelly of New York juke nights, unleashed, laughed and laughed and laughed. This record has desire at its center. Desire is a life force, it’s a wanting, a yearning, a momentum - we are all alive because there is something or someone we want - desire is an engine. But it is also mysterious, tangled, random, enlightening and HUMAN".

At its centre is Parks’ interest in desire, connection and the freedom of losing yourself on a dancefloor. ‘Floette’ captures that spirit particularly brightly, with the new collaboration with Glacier offering another perspective on its celebration of queer joy.
