Kat Duma descends into a dream world with floaty new single 'Fated'
Kat Duma is back for the second time this year with an ethereal new track titled 'Fated'.
Quickly making a name for herself as singular talent bound by no genre boundaries or expectations, the Toronto-based experimental pop artist has yet again delivered a piece of magic with her latest track.
Lyrically, 'Fated' explores the conflict between the instinctual drive towards intimacy and the ever-intangible possibility of escape. While in Guatemala at a peaceful lakeside writing retreat, the trip went totally awry when their cabin was overtaken by wildlife.
Kat subsequently wrote a lush and textural track about inevitable outcomes as synthesisers drift in and out of frame. Speaking about the new single, Kat says: “The song was written while away at a remote cabin we had rented to focus on finishing the album. I remember one day having an overwhelming feeling that something bad was about to happen.
"I was saying out loud how palpable it felt. That night, a series of events forced us to uproot, with all our recording gear and instruments, and spend the next few weeks totally untethered in a foreign environment.
"I feel like impactful events carry within them reverberations, obviously forward in time but I think they can happen backwards too - I think that’s what intuition is. The song really speaks to letting go of control and living in harmony with everything as it happens.”
