Laura Roy dazzles in stripped back live version of 'Call Me'

Another step forward from one of the London scene's most promising talents...

After putting out her 'Odyssey' EP back in March, Laura Roy returns with a stripped down live rendition of 'Call Me', the project's penultimate single.

The new version sheds the studio-refined production, showcasing the rising singer/songwriter's musical talent at its most naked. But despite returning to basics, this acoustic offering makes no sacrifices when it comes to quality, allowing Roy's vocal ability to shine.

Since moving from Canada to London, the singer/songwriter has gone from strength to strength, building up a name for herself within the city's live gigging circuit while honing her unique sound of left-field folk and ethereal R&B with an ever-expanding arsenal of production skills.

Back when she released 'Odyssey', DMY sat down with the singer to speak about her craft moving forward.

"I think I am moving deeper into a distinct sound," she said. "Having more involvement in producing my own music has definitely contributed to that. I just feel more confident as an artist and I feel like my songwriting style has really developed.

She added: "I’m able to really own and celebrate my ideas and I feel really inspired to go back to my earliest influences growing up in rural Canada because I think it brings a uniqueness to my sound. I used to spend a long time running away from that and experimenting with the opposite sounds and styles, which was important for my growth as a writer and artist, but now I just feel like I’ve arrived at where it feels most natural and true to me."

The future is looking bright for Roy. Keen to get into the world of film scoring and also looking to perform her tracks with a live symphony, this stripped back version of 'Call Me' is another step forward from one of London's most promising rising figures.
