Nia Archives Slows the Pulse on Dreamy New Single 'Vertical'
Nia Archives has unveiled her latest single 'Vertical,' offering another glimpse into her highly anticipated forthcoming album Emotional Junglist and showcasing a softer, more introspective side of her ever-evolving sound.
Following previous singles 'Danger' and 'Boys In Blue,' 'Vertical' finds the Bradford-born artist trading breakneck energy for a more spacious, atmospheric approach. Skittering hi-hats and hypnotic synths underpin a blissful meditation on romantic infatuation, with Nia drawing inspiration from Ray of Light by Madonna and the genre-defying work of Björk.
“There’s this one synth that kind of beeps, and it just makes you feel a bit dissociative,” Nia explains. “I wanted it to feel like December in London.”
Accompanied by a nocturnal video directed by Dylan Gee and filmed in New York City, the track captures the dreamlike aftermath of a night out, blending strobe-lit visuals and blurred memories to mirror the rush of new romance.
Set for release later this year, 'Emotional Junglist' promises Nia’s most ambitious project yet. Written during a turbulent period that saw her fall in and out of love, the album expands her signature alt-jungle sound with touches of indie pop and Nineties electronica, while collaborations with acclaimed producers and appearances from Jorja Smith and Sampha point towards a bold new chapter.
With sold-out headline shows already introducing fans to this new era and a major summer appearance at All Points East on the horizon, Nia Archives continues to cement her status as a festival mainstay.
'Vertical' is out now.
