Nieve Ella Embraces Desire On Single 'Romance Is A Desert'

"It’s the loving side of me, who is simply happy to exist."

Nieve Ella has shared her latest single ‘Romance Is A Desert’, offering a playful new glimpse into her forthcoming debut album 'How Long Will It Take?', out 16 October via Artist Theory.

Trading the introspection and self-doubt explored across much of the record for something lighter, ‘Romance Is A Desert’ finds Ella giving herself over to desire. Dreamy synths and hazy indie textures soundtrack the feeling of falling hard and letting the consequences wait.

“'Romance Is A Desert' is the light to the heavier, darker themes of the record. It’s the loving side of me, who is simply happy to exist,” explains Nieve. “I wanted a song that people could dance and feel good to. It’s reminiscent of a beach holiday or getting ready to go on a night out. It’s the feeling of being so in love that consequences don’t seem to matter, the only thing that’s important in that moment is that emotion. It’s sexy, it’s sassy, it’s fun."

Produced by Jamie Rendle and co-written by Ella, Rendle and Finn Marlow, the single follows Nieve's previously released tracks ‘Drive’, ‘Bite Back’ and ‘Standing On A Pane Of Glass’, each revealing a different side of the emotional world surrounding 'How Long Will It Take?'

Across its 11 tracks, the debut explores identity, relationships, self-worth and the uncertain process of growing up. Its central image is an endless staircase - a metaphor for chasing adulthood, confidence and success, only to find another flight waiting ahead.

Ella will take the album on her biggest headline tour this autumn. The run begins in Glasgow on 4 November, with a London headline at O2 Forum Kentish Town on 17 November.

'Romance Is A Desert' is out now via Artist Theory.
