The Allergies Go Back to Boom Bap Basics on ‘Dig It Up’

Bristol duo link with Andy Cooper and BlabberMouf for a hard-hitting, Golden Era throwback.

Bristol mainstays The Allergies return to their roots with 'Dig It Up,' a rugged new single featuring Andy Cooper and BlabberMouf.

Stripping things back to raw essentials, 'Dig It Up' is a full-bodied boom bap workout - hard-hitting drums, a live double bass groove courtesy of Fingathing’s Sneaky, and two MCs trading bars with precision and punch. It’s a deliberate nod to ‘90s hip-hop, channelling the grit and swagger of acts like Cypress Hill, while keeping things firmly rooted in The Allergies’ funk-fuelled DNA.

Andy Cooper and BlabberMouf lean into the track’s battle-ready energy, delivering sharp, back-and-forth verses that feel lifted straight from a classic cypher. The result is a no-frills, high-impact cut that prioritises groove, attitude and lyrical dexterity.

Accompanying the release is a chaotic animated video from Maculate, which leans into monster movie absurdity - transforming the rappers into giant, city-smashing figures in a surreal, high-energy visual that mirrors the track’s intensity.

Following continued support from BBC Radio 6 Music and a standout sync moment with Severance, The Allergies show no signs of slowing down.

'Dig It Up' is out now via Jalapeno Records.
