Foam & Sand Announces New Album 'Quieter,' Where Ambient Music Meets Neuroscience
Award-winning composer and producer Robot Koch returns under his ambient alias Foam & Sand with new album 'Quieter,' arriving 29 May via Trees and Cyborgs.
Described as a deeply restrained ambient work, 'Quieter' is built as an invitation into stillness rather than spectacle. Across the album, Koch strips sound back to its essentials, using analogue synthesisers, vibraphone, bells, chimes and tape processing to create a warm, spacious listening environment where subtle shifts become the main event.
It’s a fitting next chapter for an artist long fascinated by the relationship between sound and inner experience. In recent years, Koch’s work has extended beyond traditional music spaces into collaborations with organisations exploring neuroscience, consciousness and therapeutic sound applications, including The Monroe Institute and The Beckley Foundation. His compositions have also featured in clinical research surrounding psychedelic-assisted therapy.
Rather than simply soundtracking relaxation, 'Quieter' appears designed as a functional listening experience, one that encourages presence, nervous system regulation and sustained attention in an overstimulated world. Guest contributions include Peia, Priscilla Ahn and violinist Masha Brodskaya.
The record also lays the foundation for a new series of immersive live events, including a planned 360 spatial audio pop-up and UK listening premiere with Polygon later this May.
