Angine de Poitrine Announced to Headline The Great Escape’s Opening Beach Party

Québec duo step in following The Kooks’ cancellation, with Ribbon Skirt joining the bill.

The Great Escape has announced that Angine de Poitrine will headline its Opening Beach Party at The Deep End on Wednesday 13 May, kicking off the 2026 festival in typically chaotic style.

The beachfront event will also feature support from Montreal post-punk outfit Ribbon Skirt.

Known for their eccentric live shows and leftfield blend of microtonal jam-rock, Angine de Poitrine are set to take over one of The Great Escape’s most iconic settings on Brighton seafront. The duo replace The Kooks, who were originally scheduled to perform a Spotlight Show that evening but have since pulled out due to injury.

The festival says the switch-up marks a major opening night moment, with both acts promising high-energy sets to launch this year’s event in memorable fashion.

The Opening Beach Party is included as part of the core festival programme and can be accessed with a festival wristband, subject to capacity. Attendees are being encouraged to plan ahead via the official festival app and arrive early.

Returning to Brighton from 13–16 May, The Great Escape will once again host more than 450 emerging artists across 35 venues, alongside its annual music industry conference.

For a festival built on discovery, this feels like a fittingly unpredictable way to begin.
