Gigs of the week: 17/01/13 - 24/01/13

From soul-pop to muscular techno, there’s a load of great stuff going on all over the UK this week, so we’ve cherry-picked a selection of the best (and some visuals to prove how good they are in the flesh) so you can see where we’d be going this week if we were you.

Thursday 17th January

Solange – XOYO, London
The popstar everyone’s watching (and recently announced Field Day exclusive) is gracing XOYO’s stage for the second time tonight to perform her smooth brand of soul-pop.

Daughter – St. Mary’s Church, Brighton
London trio Daughter are Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella, and they’ve recently signed their delicate folk-pop melodies and ethereal guitar-led landscapes to 4AD (the debut album is due on the 18th March). Thursday sees them heading south to St. Mary’s Church in Brighton.

Friday 18th

Bugged Out Weekender – Butlins, Bognor Regis (Friday > Sunday)
Forget the red coats and military-enforced fun – this weekend Butlins in Bognor plays host to one of the UK’s best live music weekends. With a glittering line-up that boasts Blawan, Julio Bashmore, The Chemical Brothers and Zed Bias, it’s set to be an incredible three days.

Darling Farah – Joshua Brooks, Manchester
Hailing from the Motor city, Darling Farah has turned heads with his muscular techno and house machinations. Friday sees him hitting up Manchester’s Joshua Brooks to flex his production expertise.

Dancehall Science with Solo Banton / Mungo’s Hi Fi – Wire, Leeds
Glasgow-based soundsystem Mungo’s Hi Fi and MC Solo Banton will bring dancehall, dub and reggae flavours to Wire in Leeds this weekend.

Will Saul / Youandewan / Ossie – The Nest, London
Aus bossman Will Saul, dub/garage loving Youandewan and Lightworks/Hyperdub’s Ossie step up as the holy trinity at The Nest on Friday. Watch Saul go hard in the Boiler Room last year:

Bok Bok – Thekla, Bristol
A man who needs no introduction, Bok Bok will be at Thekla in Bristol – bass music’s mecca – to undoubtedly deliver a forward-thinking and excellent set.

Saturday 19th

Ashes57 featuring Kutmah / Bambooman – Q Cavern, Manchester
Artist and photographer Ashes57 takes her inspiration from underground music and will be exhibiting her stunning work at Manchester’s Q Cavern. Beats will kindly be provided by Sketch club curator and DJ legend Kutmah, Bambooman and Jon K.

Jamie xx / Floating Points / Evian Christ – Canal Mills, Leeds
Wax:On does it again – this time at Leed’s Canal Mills – and pieces together a stunning line-up. The xx pioneer, Eglo co-founder Floating Points and Evian Christ will be joined by Huxley and Maxxi Soundsystem for what’s undoubtedly going to be one heck of a show. Whet your appetite with a clip of one of Evian Christ’s atmospheric sets:

Midland – Audio, Brighton
One of Leed’s finest tech exports, Midland, will hit up Audio in Brighton for a spin on the decks this Saturday. As well as collaborating with Pariah on a She Works the Long Nights release, 2012 saw the DJ and producer devastate dancefloors, and hopefully ’13 will see a lot more of him.
