Dummy Mix 64 // FaltyDL

Drew Lustman is a New York-based DJ who has released much, much very good electronic / club music over the last two years. His first album, Love Is a Liability, was followed by a slew of 12“s and remixes for labels like Ramp and people like the xx, all operating in a shapeless, highly emotional garage world. His new album, out next month on Planet Mu is called ‘You Stand Uncertain’, and it’s a real treat. Download his mix on the side right away.

How’s it going?

I am well, just chillin’ at the moment.

Can you please tell us a bit about the mix?

This is as close to an influences mix as I could make. Some of these tunes are old, some are new. There are things about each track which i really like, and things about each producer I really admire. I dj like this mix often. I start nice and slow and work up in bpm pretty quickly.

What are you up to in the coming months?

I’m just doing mixes and interviews right now really. My album is out soon and a few 12“s so between that and the tour in April, i’m pretty busy. It’s nice to be a busy producer. Wasn’t always like this, won’t always be either.

Please tell us a bit about your new album?

The album “You Stand Uncertain” is snapshot of the last 2 years of my life. Gathering experiences from touring and producing. My sound changes all the time, and this period has been a really warm analog dusty sound pallet for me. I’m glad i worked through it, and have this album to show for it. I’ve been making new music in the past month that sounds like nothing i have ever released. It’s a passionate body of work for me.

Where are your favourite places to go in NYC for good music?

I have been going to Halcyon a lot in DUMBO, Brooklyn. They have a really good “on it” selection of dance 12“s. They also do these dope mid week bless ups, dj’s u-streaming in store. BYOB which is nice too. Club Deity in Park Slope has a great monthly called ‘Twisup’ ran by DQ. What else… I’m going to see jamie XX and Sepalcure tonight at LPR, should be fun.

So the groundhog didn’t see his shadow on Groundhog Day a few weeks back. Do you think Spring is finally on its way?

I sure hope so. it was 60 last Thursday, then 15 on Sunday… My friends ran a race in prospect park, and I was there for support. Froze.
