Ancestral lines are tangled but rich for ISSUE – biological son of Vallejo, California legend E-40, and spiritual son to Lil B, who is in turn a spiritual son of E-40. He handles the heritage with style, though, rapping in a laconic drawl about the simple pleasures and more complex dilemmas of life over airy beats – many produced by himself and his older brother, Droop-E.

'Liquid Wisdom', his new free album released by Greedhead Records, also features production by recent Dummy mixers Supreme Cuts, fellow Californians like Tynethys and OSØ and Scandinavians Inner and Lil Ocean. In fact, ambitions to reach out from the Bay Area to the wider world is a recurring theme in ISSUE's ruminations, though he thankfully avoids indulging in fake based parodies being popularised by some of his Swedish rap peers.
