kent danger shares his debut EP 'Saturn!: The Bringer of Old Age'
After debuting his kent danger alias with April’s alt-rock single ‘Aries Rising‘, the Los Angeles via North Carolina artist – formally known as jopippins – returns with his first EP ‘Saturn!: The Bringer of Old Age’.
The 24-year-old has spent the last year making a name for himself with his futuristic sound and mind-bending visuals, building up some serious momentum in the US as well as in the UK with with previous releases ‘otw’ and ’24/7 THOT’.
Sounding like a collaboration between Jean Dawson and Pinkpatheress, the new project begins with ‘GO!’, a hyperpop inspired anthem detailing the singer’s decision to take a chance and move 2,500 miles across the country from North Carolina to California.
The EP then transitions into the aforementioned ‘Aries Rising’ and ’24/7 THOT’, the latter being a summery guitar-based love song about leaving his old promiscuous life behind. Next up, ‘James Joint’ offers Kent’s take on Rihanna’s 2016 hit, before the project closes with cyber-space anthem ‘otw’ and finally ‘Naked Truth’, a cloudy lo-fi jam complete with a video inspired by the 1990’s Chicago Bulls’ championship run.
When asked about the title of the EP, Danger states: “I’m a Capricorn. If you’re into astrology you know that it is ruled by the planet Saturn. Saturn is known to be the universal timekeeper, and being a musician and filmmaker I’m obsessed with time. It’s only right that I declare this the title of my first project. I started writing some of these songs back when I was 20 years old, and now 4 years later, I am much older and wiser.”
