Major Lazer sample cumbia classic 'Ay Curura' on the J Balvin and El Alfa-featuring 'Que Calor'
‘Que Calor’ is the latest cut to be revealed from Major Lazer’s forthcoming fourth album.
Featuring reggaeton star J Balvin and Dominican dembow trailblazer El Alfa, the track draws inspirations from each of their home countries, sampling a Colombian cumbia classic ‘Ay Curura‘ (also sampled by Timbaland and Magoo on ‘Indian Flute’) and dembow rhythms.
It’s the latest commitment of Major Lazer’s to tie the knot between Latin music icons and global dance superstar artists, following the Daddy Yankee remix of their 2013 smash ‘Bumaye’, and collaborations with Machel Montano, Kali Uchis, Pabllo Vittar and more.
Directed by Colin Tilley, who’s worked with Kendrick Lamar, Future, Nicki Minaj, the video stars Major Lazer’s Diplo and Ape Drums as well as Balvin and El Alfa, alongside two of the band’s ‘Lazer Gyals’ – Sara Bivens and Helen Gedlu.
