Miles from Kinshasa and kadiata link up on brand new track 'Don't Be an Opp'

"I feel like we were moving Andy Cole & Dwight Yorke on this one, we’re very in-sync, it’s a nice moment."

Congo born, London raised artist Miles from Kinshasa just dropped brand new single ‘Don’t Be an Opp’ and a music video with one of London’s most dynamic voices, kadiata. ‘Don’t Be an Opp’ is a playful blend of R&B and hip-hop using 808s and a vocal line that is partly sang, partly rapped in Miles from Kinshasa’s tender tone. Longtime collaborator kadiata entered the scene as the track’s producer, but Miles felt it was only right that he dropped a verse. He says, “I feel like we were moving Andy Cole & Dwight Yorke on this one, we’re very in-sync, it’s a nice moment.”

‘Don’t Be an Opp’ comes fresh off the back of Miles’ eight-track 2020 EP ‘Beloved’, and his esteemed Colors show back in 2017. Rapidly rising through the ranks, he is oozing with authenticity – his name pays homage to his homeland of Congo and its importance within his music. Being brought up across Paris and London meant Miles developed an eclectic music taste and experimental flair. Some of his recent inspirations are Abra, Baby Keem, Jai Paul and Kodak Black. The music video comes from director Ricky Gibb, who has delivered a super slick piece of film that follows a fun girls vs. boys narrative set to a nostalgic London setting.

Speaking of the track, Miles explains Don’t Be an Opp is a song I wrote during lockdown. At the time I was longing for some time away with some company just to have a good time. Time was feeling very bleak and uncertain and honestly I just needed some sun, so I just put it in a song instead of a Ryanair flight! It’s very tongue in cheek and carefree, coming off the back of my last project I just wanted to come back with something fresh but still very idiosyncratically Miles from Kinshasa.”

Miles will be performing a headline show at London’s The Lexington on 15th November and tickets are on sale now. Click here to buy.
