Overmono Announce Upcoming Album 'Pure Devotion' and Share New Single ‘Lockup’
Overmono have officially announced their second album 'Pure Devotion,' set for release on 7 August via XL Recordings.
Alongside the announcement, brothers Tom and Ed Russell have shared new single 'Lockup' - a pounding, emotionally charged club track that premiered as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record. Built around pummelling drums, heavy bass pressure and euphoric chords, the track reportedly emerged after the duo fell down a post-punk rabbit hole inspired by Simon Reynolds’ book, Rip It Up and Start Again, eventually sampling Birmingham cult band Fast Relief’s 'What A Waste.'
Named after their acclaimed live event series launched in 2024, 'Pure Devotion' is described as Overmono’s most ambitious record to date. Across 11 tracks, the duo experiment with unconventional production techniques - including using vintage train speakers, tape manipulation and even baking cymbals in the oven - while bringing in collaborators including John Joseph Holt, Kindora and Ruthven.
To celebrate the release, Overmono will play their biggest London headline show yet at Old Royal Naval College on 7 August. The show sold out rapidly.
Following the success of 'Good Lies,' this feels like Overmono levelling up once again.
'Lockup' is out now via XL Recordings.
