10 Best 140 Tunes according to Taiki Nulight
Mongolian-British producer Taiki Nulight dropped his latest EP, 'Stay In Your Lane', at the end of November via Chaos.
Known for his innovative blend of UK Garage, House, and Bass, the EP features singles with P Money, Capo Lee, and Hamdi, alongside tracks like 'Unknowable' featuring Harry Stone.
Taiki’s refined production style shines on the emotive, stripped-back 'Unknowable,' reflecting his dexterity as an artist.
Mentored by Benga and praised by tastemakers like Annie Nightingale and Pete Tong, Taiki’s global career spans collaborations with Chase and Status and Becky Hill, and performances from Fabric to festivals worldwide.
As one of the the innovators bringing 140 back to the forefront of UK dance, Taiki selects 10 Best tunes to celebrate the release of his EP.
“Was insanely difficult to only choose “Best” 10 records as I have so many favourites but I chose the 10 that influenced me the most when I first started getting into music production," Taiki shares. "Very grateful to have grown up in such a revered era of 140.”
1. Artwork - Red
“Love this record. Although It wasn’t a 140 tune, I ALWAYS played it at 140 when I first started DJing.”
2. Chase & Status - Saxon
“Pretty much grew up listening to Chase & Status as a teenager. One of those tunes I always came back to throughout the last 15 years. Absolute madness of a record.”
3. Nero - This Way
“Actually discovered this song through a friend when I went snowboarding for the first time. Back when MP3 players were common. ‘This Way’ the only song on that MP3 player and I kept that MP3 player the entire trip with this record on repeat.”
4. Joker - My Trance Girl
“Joker was actually the first artist I went to see live. ‘My Trance Girl’ & ‘Milky Way’ were played live that night and I’ve been obsessed with his music ever since. Been very fortunate to be working closely with him recently. If you haven’t listened to his music or seen him live you should do it.”
5. Brownz & Requake - Creep
“Have had a lot of great memories to this track. Straight gut punch when this drops. Still play this record in my sets even to this day.”
6. Stream - Dutch Flowerz
“This tune was a favourite every summer when I was back in school. Always got whipped out as soon as exams were over and we would all hang out on the golf course near my school. A lot of nostalgia.”
7. Mala - Eyez VIP
“First festival I ever played was Outlook Festival back in 2011. I just remember this tune being wheeled up 5+ times. Might have even been more. The energy at that set was crazy. Been obsessed with this tune ever since. Unfortunately never got my hands on this Dubplate. Maybe one day.”
8. Lost - Ironhide VIP
“Lost has been ahead of his time since the beginning. This tune in particular absolutely rips up the dance. Sound design king.”
9. Dismantle - Times Up
"Been a long time Dismantle fan. Long before I even started making music. Used to watch him closely on GetDarker and any time he has shows in Brighton with Gangoon Dubs I would try to go. His style is mad unique and has always pushed boundaries when it comes to music culture. Mad respect.”
10. Benny Page - Tempo
“Absolute set weapon. This one very special as it was one of the first dubplates I got from DJ Walshy. He introduced me to Benny Page’s music when I used to do radio with washy in Caterham when I was 17/18. Always felt confident going into any house party/radio because of this record!”
