Tommy Four Seven - Sevals [MP3]

No hi-hats, no claps, no synthesizers. No traditional percussion other than the low frequency pummel of a kick drum. This is techno at its most tribal. Harsh and sharp, like a metallic taste in the mouth. Although, the stark, industrial, concrete march that is Tommy Four Seven’s debut album ‘Primate’ is largely composed from warping that most organic of things – field recordings.

Tommy Four Seven is a British producer living in Berlin. Like Bristol-hailing but Berlin-based musician Emika (who incidentally lends some vocals to this record), he also started out as a music technology student., which may be responsible for a similar ability to turn natural sound into new textures and atmospheres. A mix of micro and macro sound management. It’s controlled, the 4/4 rhythm sometimes deviated from, but a bristling, tight tension always held. The construction of a dark, industrial, parallel space to the one those initial field recordings come from.

CLR Records released Tommy Four Seven’s album ‘Primate’ on March 28th
