Erol Alkan traces Bugged Out's 30 year history with new 2.5 hour mix
Erol Alkan has shared a brand new mix tracing the entire history of Bugged Out!
The 2.5 hour mix has been put together to mark the 30th anniversary of the iconic club night, which launched back in 1994. Bugged Out started its journey as the events-branch of the dance music and club culture magazine Jockey Slut.
Speaking about the work that went into the new mix, Alkan wrote on SoundCloud: "Bugged Out turns 30 next year, and this mix is made up of 30 records which represents each of those years from 1994 to 2023.
"Myself, Johnno and Lemmy from Bugged Out all reflected on various points in the clubs history and the artists who have helped shape it, and chose records which felt are a representation of the sound of the club, not just historically, but where it stands now.
"Pulling together music from different eras and sounds was a bit of a challenge, and whilst some may not be the biggest track of their respective year - a few will be seen as classics and a healthy amount are perhaps obscure in relation - but to my ears they still sound as brilliant now as they did upon release.
"In a bizarre twist of fate, the oldest record from 1994 is mixed in with the newest from this year, which wasn't intentional. Clocking in at 2 and a half hours, the mix was recorded live in a single take, here in London."
Erol Alkan is playing for Bugged Out at London's new mega-venue Drumsheds this Saturday, kickstarting the 30th anniversary celebrations with a mouthwatering line up of electronic superstars, such as Hot Chip, Orbital, Basement Jaxx and more.
