Georgia announces debut album, 'Georgia'
Georgia, a London multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer of fine experimental pop, will release her self-titled debut album through Domino in August.
Georgia Barnes made her solo debut last year with the 'Come In' EP on Kaya Kaya Records, but she wasn't necessarily a newcomer: Barnes studied music at SOAS in London, worked the counter at Rough Trade, and played drums in the live bands of Kwes and Kate Tempest. Growing up in a very musical household in North West London, she was exposed to grime, dub, ragga, post-punk, and sophisti-pop, while claiming influences from more contemporary producers like Missy Elliott and Hudson Mohawke.
'Georgia' was written, performed, and produced by Barnes in her home studio over a two-year period, and it features a few tracks from the 'Come In' EP as well as previous Domino single Move Systems. You can watch a trailer for 'Georgia', soundtracked by album opener Intro, above.
She'll be playing a bunch of shows in the future, including support slots with Hot Chip, which you can check out below.
