Kanye documentary reportedly acquired by Netflix for £22 million
A docuseries focusing on the life of Kanye West has reportedly been sold to Netflix for $30m (approximately £22m), according to Billboard.
The documentary is set to include never-before-seen footage of West and will examine the artist-turned-billionaire’s life and work, including his presidential campaign defeat last year and the death of his mother, Donda West.
West previously partnered with a music video and filmmaking duo and allowed them to chronicle the past 21 years of his life on camera.
The filmmaking pair are Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah, more commonly known as Coodie & Chike, who directed two of West’s first music videos for ‘Through the Wire’ and ‘Jesus Walks’.
Although Billboard put the sale at $30m (£21.7m), a source “familiar with the matter” told Variety that this figure is not accurate.
The documentary is expected to arrive on Netflix later this year.
