Kelpe - Answered

Swirls of live instrumentation give this cut from the London-based producer's forthcoming LP a sunny demeanour.

London-based producer Kelpe has been at it for around ten years now, and will return with new LP ‘Fourth: The Golden Eagle’, due out on his own newly formed imprint DRUT Records in the summer. The first offering from it is the fertile rhythms and sunny demeanour of Answered, with ping-ponging beats forming around thuds of tambourine, before fluid layers of rhythm are piled on top.

It has that lushness – almost a pastoralism – which would make it a comfortable fit on Gold Panda’s NOTOWN Recordings, but it’s through its sequences of interweaving live drums that it really soars. It feels like cracks of sunshine slowly shaking off the clouds to be revealed fully – and what better image to be left with in the early throes of spring?

DRUT Records will release Answered as an EP on the 15th April, with ‘Fourth: The Golden Eagle’ to follow in June.
