Hear Kendrick Lamar freestyle over TNGHT's Higher Ground

The rising Compton rapper disguises a cry for help as a rap in this snippet from Gilles Peterson's upcoming 6 Music interview with him.

Kendrick Lamar sounds as weary as a person can possibly sound while having the souped-up intensity of TNGHT pumped into their personal space on this recent appearance on Gilles Peterson’s 6 Music show.

This snippet of a freestyle brings the gift of hearing his unmistakable, thoughtful Compton drawl scattered over the bodily hyperactivity of Hudson Mohawke and Lunice’s beats, but it also seems like a masked cry for help, with the homesick refrain “I don’t know when I be going back to Cali” and the most tired 2 Chainz impersonation to ever go on record leading us to believe that someone urgently needs to send some soup and a blanket to whatever hotel room Kendrick is staying in right now. Listen to the clip below, and hear the full interview on 6 Music on Saturday 1st December.

Aftermath/Interscope released ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city’ on the 22nd October 2012.
