
Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) shares new freestyle and announces retirement from music
Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) has shared a new freestyle about his life in South Africa while confirming that he is to retire from working in the music and film industries, effective immediately.
Bey announced his retirement last night from Cape Town via a mixtape hosted on Kanye West's website. 'A message from Yasiin Bey' begins with him referencing Kanye's new single No More Parties in LA ("No more parties in S.A.") before he goes on to detail the reasons for his detainment in the country and protesting his innocence.
Last week, news broke that Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) was detained in South Africa for allegedly using a "world passport" to leave the country. Hours later, a representative for Bey dispelled the reports and told OkayAfrica that the allegations made against him were false – read more here.
