Bandcamp introduces playlist function for mobile app
Bandcamp has introduced a new playlist feature to its mobile app.
The update was announced via the App Store last Wednesday, February 15. "You can now use the Bandcamp app to make playlists from the music in your collection," the update read. "This is just the start, we'll be adding more playlist features in the coming months."
Referring to the new feature, a statement on the Bandcamp Help Centre page reads: "we’ve been waiting a long time to say this." The platform has also confirmed that users can only playlist tracks that they've already purchased and that it's not currently available on desktop.
Last March, Bandcamp was acquired by Epic Games, the video game company responsible for Fortnite and Unreal Engine.
Bandcamp’s CEO Ethan Diamond immediately positioned the deal as a positive move for artists, commenting on how the two companies shared a wider vision of “building the most open, artist-friendly ecosystem in the world” and how the move would help to “create even more opportunities for artists to be compensated fairly for their work.”
