In my eyes the deepest cut on Pure X’s stunning debut album ‘Pleasure’, Surface is a song that demands complete submission. Not that any persuasion is required, it burns slow with the ache of a private, cherished moment. In this new video by friend and long-time collaborator Malcolm Elijah, that feeling is echoed with a ritualistic twist. Dust falls, smoke rises and a narrative that recalls the midnight confusion of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, albeit with a touch more bondage, plays out.
