Dre Skull's "Strictly Summer Vibes" mix

Dre Skull has somewhat improbably gone from making culture jamming performance art to dancehall riddims in a few short years, with a large part of his eclectic label Mixpak dedicated to introducing Jamaican talent and his name associated with some of island's best artists. He's worked with the likes of Beenie Man, Mavado and Popcaan but his most fruitful collaboration was with Vybz Kartel – who linked up with Dre Skull after hearing an early riddim on an email and flew him to Kingston to record the whole of the album 'Kingston Story', Kartel's last before he was arrested and jailed on a double murder charge in 2011 (the first of those cases, if you were interested, began earlier his week). Anyway, the producer has made a "strictly summer vibes" mix for URB magazine – a collection of the some of the best in contemporary dancehall with his own well-known hits alongside new releases from his label, others and a nice offering of classics at the start. You can also catch Dre Skull live tomorrow at the Lovebox Festival in East London's Victoria Park, or at the Tramlines Festival in Sheffield and the Swing Ting Summer Session in Manchester on Saturday.
