Dummy Mix 500 // Django Django

Across the last five years and 499 editions, we have strived for eclectic perfection with our Dummy mixes, pushing the boundaries of the increasingly genreless field of music. Big names have laid down and showcased their powers, while newcomers have also staked their claims with amazing contributions and, as we reach our 500th mix, we aim to continue as we began – providing memorable moments.

In the same time period, Django Django have built a reputation as one of the UKs most innovative bands, from their Mercury-nominated 2012 debut album to new opus Marble Skies, their first in three years and out now on Because Music. Containing elements of their rockabilly influences, the album also sees the four piece charter unfamiliar territory, towing lines between krautrock and hardcore dance, but in a way that channels the same synergy that was evident in their early releases.

"A mix of house and techno records from my collection which goes back to the early 90s, when I started buying stuff like the Reel to Reel record 'we are i.e.' … It's got quite a lot Chicago stuff from the mid 90s, from relief and dance mania that influenced the type of music I was making pre-Django Django, and some newer stuff that I'm into, from Night Slugs, Jimmy Edgar and Mumdance. It's based around a sound that defines a great track to me… lots of claps on the one, mad drums, beeps, bleeps and strange off kilter sounds."
