Darama Closes The Loop With 'Refractions 03'

The London producer wrapped his three-part series with a release party at Radial, bringing UKG, South Asian influence and club physicality into sharper focus.

Darama brought his 'Refractions' series to a close last week with the release of 'Refractions 03' on 25th September, marked by a release party at London venue Radial the following day.

Where 'Refractions θ1' laid the groundwork and 'θ2' tightened things into three sound-system-ready cuts, this final chapter pulls everything together into Darama's most assured statement yet. Opener 'Believe In Me' leans into deep low end and hazy atmosphere, 'R And R' shifts into fractured rhythms and controlled tension, and closer 'Give You Something' opens things back out into warmer, more expansive territory, three tracks built to function as much on a home system as they do in a club.

"With 'Refractions θ3' I really wanted to reflect the future of my sound and I think you can feel that in the optimistic tone of the tracks," Darama explains. "The 3 tracks are all something I can see functioning on the dancefloor or at home and I feel I've created something that doesn't sound like anything else out there which is my favourite place to be as a producer."

It's a fitting summary of an artist who's never been easy to pin down. Moving fluidly between UKG, hip-hop, experimental electronic music and South Asian influence, Darama has built a sound that resists easy categorisation. As a core member of South Asian collective Daytimers, he's used the 'Refractions' series to push back against dance music's growing pull toward nostalgia, treating the past as a foundation rather than a destination.
