The mashup seems to have gone out of favour in recent years, with other, similar forms – the disco re-edit, the trap bootleg, the R&B refix – taking precedence in the eyes of young producers. For anybody missing the art of the ‘blend’ (or ‘bastard pop’, or whatever you might refer it to as), Deekline & Ed Solo (versus Philly Blunt) have recently shared a mashup of their own tune Countdown with Disclosure’s Latch, featuring Sam Smith. It’s a big, brash banger that doesn’t leave much to the imagination but which does promise filled dancefloors and positive party vibes all round – and you can’t really disagree that that’s a good thing.
