DIVINEANGEL's debut single 'OBiNRiN' receives a West Afrikan-inspired Jkarri remix

The track's title is the Yoruba translation for ‘woman’

Following the release of DIVINEANGEL’s debut single ‘OBiNRiN’, today the rising duo release a kaleidoscopic remix of the cut by London producer and multi-instrumentalist Jkarri.

DIVINEANGEL is the creative love-child of Yoruba-British soulstress muva of Earth and rising Asante-British artist Angel SEKA. Representing a new wave of Afro-punk jazz artists who craft their music with the intention of connecting themselves and the diaspora to their African roots, the London-based duo’s debut release is a soul-nurturing love letter to the divine feminine within the African woman.

Pronounced ‘o-be-ri’, the track’s title is the Yoruba translation for ‘woman’ and is a powerful, affirmative chant set to encourage those in search of their ancestral and native roots. The original version of the single reflects the pair’s British upbringing and incorporates a punk-inspired edge into their eclectic sound.

Doubling down on the African inspirations in the track, Jkarri’s remix switches lanes with a higher tempo perfect for the dance floor.

“With rhythms inspired by F.Kenya and West Afrikan highlife, Jkarri’s remix of OBiNRiN takes a kaleidoscopic, raw and energetic approach channelling the spirit of 70s and 80s West Afrikan music combined with Jkarri’s own sound. He experiments with guitar, bass and drums with a redefining sound of what it means to be Afrikan,” comments DIVINEANGEL.
